Need To Know This Week

Rules for Youth Archers

To coincide with the start of youth coaching this Sunday, the committee has strengthened the rules for youth archers to ensure the wellbeing of our youth archers and the smooth running of our coaching and club operations.

Effective immediately, children who are in primary or intermediate school(i.e. have not started their first term of school in year 9) must have a parent/caregiver present during any scheduled club programmes (e.g. Youth or MAGS Development or BAP programmes) or tournaments.

You can read this rule in our outdoor range shooting rules, and indoor range shooting rules.

WA Field Archery Workshop

Would you like to know a little more about World Archery Field? Fleur Maggs is running a workshop on Saturday 15 February, from 2.30pm, open to all bow types. See flyer here

The workshop will cover: target types, some rules, and for those who use sights: guaging for unmarked and sight tapes.

If you would like to make a sight tape, please fill out this “Archers Advantage PDF” about your gear and bring it with you on the day.  We will collect the rest of the information on the day to make the sight tape at a later date.

If you have any questions please email Fleur at: fleur@mgac.org.nz or text: 027 836 3977

Reminder About Safe Shooting

A member of public who lives a few kilometres from our indoor range recently contacted us (as well as the Police) to ask for advice after she found three arrows embedded into her front garden. While there is no suggestion members of our club were involved, it’s a good opportunity to remind ourselves about safe shooting.

Remember the safest place to practice archery is at a dedicated archery range such as ours. Never release arrows in a public place (unless you are hunting on DoC land and you have a permit).

If you are training at home, please ensure there is no risk of your arrows landing on neighbouring properties; and your target is properly secured, big enough to catch any stray arrows, and strong enough to hold your arrows.
