Shooting on a Sunday morning? New guidelines here

Our Sunday morning youth lines (youth at 9am and MAGS at 11am) have become increasingly popular. To help us manage these groups and ensure there is some space for other members who wish to shoot alongside, we’re putting in place some new guidelines.

  • A maximum of 3 lanes will be available for casual shooting between 9am and 12:30pm every Sunday.
  • Casual shooters will need to be at the range either at 9am or 11am to facilitate lane allocation. Please be prepared to share targets and distances with other members.
  • Unfortunately we cannot guarantee a space for members who arrive after 9am or after 11am as lanes and targets will have already been allocated.
  • All archers will shoot and collect their arrows at the same time as a single line.
  • The range will return to regular use from around 12.30 on Sundays.

This applies only during term time. If in doubt, check the club calendar (available on the homepage of our website) or this weekly newsletter.

Achievement Round this Saturday

Free for MGAC members, the Achievement Round round is a progression from BAP, so it’s ideal for those who have completed their Gold Arrow in BAP, or are comfortable shooting at 40m or more. It’s 72 arrows (12 ends of 6 arrows) and you start at your closest comfortable distance. Once you’ve met the achievement score (see below), you can progress to the next distance the following month. Ribbons are free to MGAC members once you meet the achievement score. It’s also a great way to meet other members!

Distances shot:  40m, 50m, 60m, 70m, 80m, 90m
Target Face: Barebow/Longbow/Recurve 122cm
Compound 80cm @ 40/50m, 122cm @ 60/70/80/90m
Achievement Scores:  Barebow/Longbow 400 | Recurve 500 | Compound 600

Calling all barebowers – first session 6 July!

Are you new to shooting barebow? Do you want to learn essential techniques from some of our best barebow archers?
John Way and Kerry Hoole are offering a two-session series for newbies to barebow – the first focused on technique, and the second on tuning and equipment. Even better, all proceeds will go towards supporting the MGAC archers and managers representing NZ at the World Field Champs.
You must register to participate – go to Archery OSA  here.

AGM: is the date in your diary?

Saturday 27 July, 1pm, Mount Albert YMCA, mezzanine room
At the AGM we will elect the officers and committee for 2024/25, and we’d love some new faces and fresh energy. Talk to any current committee member to find out more.
