Need to know this week
Interclub on Saturday
Everyone is welcome at the March Interclub round this Saturday afternoon. Be at the outdoor range by 1.30pm for a 2pm start.
The round is a modified Canadian 900 (90 arrows at 3 distances, the longest being 55/45/35 meters). Any age and any bow type can take part, but you do need to be comfortable shooting the distances – see all the distances and rules here.
600 Round on Sunday
The next Auckland District Archery Association (ADAA) 600 round is this Sunday at our club. Registration is at 1pm, shooting starts around 1.30pm. It’s a great opportunity to meet other archers from around the district, and achievable for all age groups and bow types.
The shoot is 90 arrows at 30m, starting on a 122cm face. Once you’ve shot 600 points or more on that size face, at the next shoot you drop to an 80cm face, then 60cm etc. More info here.
What happens at international archery events?
Last year, several MGAC members were selected by Archery NZ to represent our country at international competitions, with sponsorship support from our club. Over the past few months we have shared their reports in our newsletter, so we can all learn more about their perspectives on competing internationally.
This week we share the final team member report from Lily Brislen. Lily joined Max Maggs and Kelly Atkinson in the NZ team at the World Archery Field Champs in Lac la Biche, Canada, supported by Janis Blake and Fleur Maggs who were team officials.
International archery event this weekend!
This weekend is the World Games Commonwealth Qualifying Tournament (CQT) hosted at Auckland Archery Club. At this event NZ’s team of three compound archers (Riku van Tonder, Ben Trim and Gary Coleman shooting as The Silver Arrows), will be trying to win the two quota places to send archers 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China this August. This weekend they will be competing against Australia, Tahiti, Fiji and Tonga. For more information, check out Archery NZ’s Facebook post here – head along to give them your support!
