Hutton Memorial Shoot and SGM – Friday 6 February, 10am

We will shoot this at the outdoor range at 10:30am on Friday 6th February – aim to arrive 10am to get set up. All are welcome!

Full details can be found here!

As you’ve seen in Monday’s email, we will be holding our first Special General Meeting regarding our new Constitution immediately following the Hutton Memorial Shoot. We expect this to kick off about 2pm – please hang around after the Hutton or come along at 2pm to have your say! We need as many members as possible to vote on this important document. Refreshments provided!!

BAP this week!

We are looking forward to the first BAP of the year this Saturday! Come along to earn your WA ribbons and get some excellent coaching tips from our awesome BAP coaching team.

As BAP is getting busier, please remember to arrive before 10:45am so you can pop your name on the list, secure a target, and be ready to get shooting at 11am! Your coaches may also ask you to help out in other ways, and we encourage you to help each other and your coaches to keep this programme running smoothly.

College Sport kicking off next week!

A reminder to our secondary school archers to check in with your school archery co-ordinator/sports department about entering you into College Sport! Entries close Wednesday 4th February (today!), so time is of the essence! See more here!

Just like last year, we will be hosting 8 lanes of College Sport archers every Wednesday from 11th February, from 3:30-6:30pm! This will be a busy time on the range, so let’s share targets if we are shooting the same distances, and do our bit to make sure College Sport runs smoothly.

Hosting this also requires lots of hard work on the part of our awesome volunteers, and we need you to be one of them. If you can help with set up or pack down on these Wednesday evenings, we can’t run this event without you! Reach out to treasurer@mgac.org.nz or show up at 3pm to help set up, or from 6pm to help pack down!

Youth Programmes starting up again on Sunday 15 February – NEW STRUCTURE ALERT!

Our amazing youth development programmes on Sundays will start for the year again on the 15th February! There is a new format for this year which structures our sessions by skill level, set by the archer’s level in our Beginner Archery Programme.

The Kopukapuka programme is for youth archers working toward their white, black, or blue BAP arrow levels, and for youths new to the club – starts 8:45am Sundays

The Kowhai programme is for youth archers working toward their blue, red, or gold BAP arrow levels, and for youth compounders at any level – starts 10:45 AM Sundays

The Waiporoporo programme is for school leavers and young adults – starts 1:00 PM Sundays

These programmes have been named after some of our beautiful native flowers, and reflect the BAP level you will be striving for! The Waiporoporo programme is named after the purple kumara flower, chosen because purple is the level after gold in World Archery’s elite pin system, reflecting some of our school leavers’ progression beyond the BAP.

If you’re a youth member, you should have received an email on Tuesday about these new lines, helping you know which session to attend. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us. Note these programmes are offered to our members who consider MGAC their primary club.

We’re so excited about these new programmes and their new names, with Head Coaches Ross, Paul, Meike, and Jan leading the way. See you at the outdoor range on Sunday 15 February!

Range rules reminder

Just a wee reminder about following all our range rules all the time! This includes always wearing covered shoes (no crocs and socks!) and never wearing earphones when you are forward of the waiting line, respecting our range use hours, and making sure that under 18s are always accompanied by a responsible adult.

It’s also important to always be kind and courteous to those around you. This includes when you are reminding fellow archers about following range rules, or helping members of the public who are still learning where the safe zones are. It’s great to use a big, clear voice, but be polite!

To brush up on our club rules, see our Outdoor range rules here and our Indoor range rules here.
