Kia ora koutou MGAC members and whānau,
Today we have confirmed our new lease with the Tūpuna Maunga Authority. It’s great to have this completed now after several years of discussions and negotiations.
The lease commences tomorrow, 1 December 2022. I am very sorry for the short notice on this as we had final confirmation on the dates just this afternoon.
As flagged at our AGM this year, our new lease includes some changes to outdoor range access dates/times. Specifically:
- We will be unable to use the outdoor range at any time on Mondays and Tuesdays. The clubroom building is still accessible 24/7/365.
- Our use hours are largely unchanged, though summer Thursdays will extend to 7pm. This means that we can enjoy evening shoots on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during summer.
Auckland Archery Club has gone through this lease process alongside us and also has restrictions on usage with two closed days (Mondays and Thursdays for them). We are putting in place a reciprocal shooting arrangement with AAC to allow for MGAC member use on certain days without incurring range fees. More details will be provided in due course.
Over the next while, we will update the signage in the outdoor clubroom. Note I have requested that the TMA urgently update the sign at the entrance to our range which states our permitted hours of use. If you are using the range late on a Thursday, and are challenged by a member of the public, please remain polite and explain that the sign is in the process of being changed – you are welcome to refer anyone to Kelly (President) for further discussion.
Keyholders, please respect these rules as part of our new relationship with the landholders, and do not open the club on Mondays or Tuesdays. Our lease is for one year and we need to remain model tenants, as we always have been, for our best opportunity to renew the lease next year for a longer period.
