Club News

Kia ora koutou,

It’s getting pretty busy at our ranges, with some good weather and the start of Term 1 activities! Please read the whole newsletter; there is lots of important information for all members.

IMPORTANT! Special General Meeting – this Saturday 21st February

Thanks to all who turned up to the first SGM regarding our proposed new constitution on Waitangi Day! Please come and vote AGAIN to formally adopt our the proposed constitution this Saturday, 21st February, at 3:30pm! We estimate it will not take longer than half an hour, and refreshments will be provided!

Please read the draft Constitution here.

We’ve also written a short explainer that highlights what’s new and reasoning. Read the explainer here. You can ask any questions at the SGM to make sure you are comfortable passing this important document.

Passing the Constitution needs as many members as possible to turn up and vote!

Interclub Challenge this Saturday!

The Interclub Challenge is a shoot for everyone! All MGAC members can join in with the shoot this Saturday 21st February. We need a minimum of 9 members to make sure our teams are up for the challenge.

You can shoot the Interclub anytime on Saturday, and then hang around for the SGM, where refreshments will be provided! Score with another member – on paper (leave in the clubroom) or on your own app (email your scoresheet to Kelly). If you want to organise a friend to shoot with, chat in the Interclub Challenge group in WhatsApp.

Range Search Update

We know everyone is very keen to know how the search for a new home for Mountain Green Archery Club is progressing!

Although we cannot share any details, please know that things are progressing, and as soon as we have concrete information to share, or if we need anything from you, we will let you know. Thanks for all the suggestions and offers of support!

Youth Programmes started strong last Sunday!

It was great to see our youth archers return to the range last Sunday for the first youth programmes of 2026! A reminder of the new structure:

  • The Kopukapuka programme begins at 9am – please arrive before 8:45am.
  • The Kowhai programme begins at 11am – please arrive before 10:45am
  • The Waiporoporo programme begins at 1pm – please arrive before 12:45pm

If you aren’t sure which programme you are meant to be attending, email Ross at headcoach-blue@mgac.org.nz

For the rest of our members – the range can get very busy on Sunday mornings now! Please show up willing to be flexible and share targets.

College Sport continues this week…

A reminder that we are hosting the College Sport barebow archers on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-6:30pm. This takes up 8 lanes, so while there is plenty of space to shoot alongside, please be prepared to be flexible if necessary!

Our team are still in need of volunteers to help with set-up! Email treasurer@mgac.org.nz or show up at 3pm to lend a hand setting up gazebos and pulling out targets.

Upcoming: The Rockin’ Robin 2026

On the weekend of February 28th-March 1st, the range will be closed for our annual Rockin’ Robin matchplay tournament. There will be no casual shooting available, but if you are comfortable shooting 70m (recurve archers), or 50m (compound and barebow archers), there are still a few spots available. Sign up on Archery OSA!

We also welcome spectators, and there will be drinks and hot dogs available for purchase on Saturday 28th February during the lunch break (scheduled for approximately 12pm). Sunday afternoon will feature finals style medal matches – just like you saw on the Olympics – and there will be commentary and seating for spectators! Please come along and watch some top archers from Mountain Green’s and NZ!

Safety and Etiquette Reminder

We love when the range gets busy and we have lots of keen archers shooting together!

A few safety rules and etiquette points to remember:

  • Please only point your loaded bow at the ground or the target.
  • Keeping your gear behind the safety line means it is clear who is shooting, and who has finished shooting their end. Clarity prevents accidents!
  • It is polite to wait until the archers adjacent to you have shot their arrow to leave the line – don’t leave while they are at full draw.
  • Keep talking on the line to a minimum – compliments and coaching are okay!

If you wish to peruse our range rules, find our outdoor range rules here, and our indoor range rules here. The committee may update these from time to time, so it’s great to regularly familiarise yourself with them!
