Outdoor Nationals | Clout, Target, and Matchplay Results
The Outdoor Nationals wrapped up with fantastic performances from our MGAC archers across both Clout and Target events, despite the extreme weather and cancellations. It was great to see so many members on the line, supporting each other and shooting with confidence and determination.
At the last tally… MGAC Medal Results:
Gold: 19
Silver: 16
Bronze: 21
Well done to our medallists and to every MGAC member who took part and represented the club so strongly at Nationals! Find the full list of results here.
Coach of the Year recognition
Congratulations to our very own Jan Lees who was recognised as one of three finalists for the prestigious Archery New Zealand Coach of the Year award! Although the honour this year went to another great coach, it’s great to see Jan’s hard work and achievements recognised nationally. Well done!
Hutton Memorial Shoot and SGM – Friday 6 February, 10am
On Waitangi Day, clubs throughout the country shoot the Archery NZ “Hutton Memorial Shoot” in memory of Royle and Alison Hutton who were prominent in establishing Youth Archery in New Zealand. This is shot locally, with results compiled from clubs around the country!
The Rounds shot are the Burton and Junior Burton – if you’ve ever shot the Interclub Challenge, you’ll be able to shoot the Burton round for the Hutton Memorial! The Burton is 5 ends of 6 arrows shot at each of the distances of 55m, 46m and 37m, while the Junior Burton is 37m, 28m, 18m.
Full details can be found here!
We will shoot this at the outdoor range at 10:30am on Friday 6th February – aim to arrive 10am to get set up. All are welcome!
Special General Meeting
Immediately following the completion of the Hutton Memorial Shoot, we will be holding our first Special General Meeting regarding our new Constitution. We expect this to kick off about 2pm – please hang around after the Hutton or come along at 2pm to have your say! We need as many members as possible to vote on this important document. Refreshments provided!!
Field of Dreams: our MGAC Club Field Championships
We’re hosting the Field of Dreams tournament on Sunday 8 February with Whitford Forrest Archers. This will also be our Club Field Championships! Please register on ArcheryOSA and come along. This is an event for everyone, even if you have not done a field shoot in the past. Find out more!
Shield Challenge Successes!
The annual Shield Challenge competition, shot each November, recognises the top club teams in each bow style. Winners were announced at the Outdoor Nationals banquet this past weekend, and MGAC members won two shields this year!
The Hamilton Shield for the top barebow team was won by our team of Kerry Hoole, Ashley Zu, and Jacob Schaffer. We were the inaugural winners of the Hamilton Shield upon its inception several years ago, and it has moved between several other clubs since then. It’s back at MGAC now where it belongs, recognising our barebow archers’ excellence.
The Ryan Shield for the top recurve team was won by our team of Ben McLean, Izzy Matthews, Nuala Edmundson, and Stephen Florence. We’ve won the Ryan Shield for several years in a row, acknowledging that our recurve archers are among the best in the country!
MGAC also fielded many of the archers in the University of Auckland team who won the Tertiary League Shield, which runs throughout the year.
