Need To Know This Week

MGAC wins the Ryan Shield – AGAIN!

For the fourth year in a row, our amazing club has won the coveted Ryan Shield, which was presented at the recent National Champs banquet dinner.  The Ryan Shield is a postal-style interclub tournament shot by teams of four archers from clubs across the country. Thank you and congratulations to the MGAC archers who comprised this year’s winning Ryan Shield team Kelly Atkinson, Izzy Matthews, Nuala Edmundson and Steven Florence.

Our visitor policy – no hosting if you’re a new member

Please take note of our visitor policy which states (among other things) every visitor must be actively supervised by a current MGAC adult (Senior or Non-shooting) member who has been a member for a minimum of six months who is responsible for the visitor’s conduct and for ensuring their compliance with the Range Rules and safe shooting practices. Visitors must also pay $10 per visit.

Some new members seem unfamiliar with this policy so please make sure you are aware of our club rules and policies. They are there for everyone’s safety.

Pick a league, any league…

There’s a bunch of leagues on at the moment to help keep you motivated over the winter season:

Archery NZ Indoor League
Free for all Archery NZ members and at a comfortable 18m distance, this is a Vegas 300 round (or single 40cm target face if preferred).  Go to Archery OSA for more information and to sign up. It’s on every week until 17 August. Check out the indoor range group on WhatsApp to keep in touch with when different groups of members are shooting this together.

World Archery Oceania Challenge
Another free one, this challenge is 5 ends of 6 arrows at each of three distances on a 122cm face. There are three rounds: a short round for those in archery less than 12 months; barebow and longbow round; and a long round for everyone else.  Make sure you check out the distances for each round in the guidelines. Sign up through Archery OSA and come to the outdoor range on Sunday 18 May at 1pm.

Kaminski Archery’s Backyard Championship
Run by US Olympic medallist Jake Kaminski, this challenge can be shot indoors or outdoors. And, there’s an incredible prize…the club with the most score submissions will win a free in-person group lesson and seminar with Jake Kaminski! If you’re keen to enter, go to Kaminski’s website (it’s $26 to enter this champs). Thanks to Jan Lees for sharing this one.

2025 MGAC Indoor Championships – 25 to 27 July

Open to all full and associate members of MGAC, the Indoor Champs will be a great event for archers of all abilities – whether you’re prepping for indoor nationals, wanting to shoot your first tournament, or anything in between. It’ll be a 300 round (10 x 3 arrow ends) on either a 40cm face or triple spot, with a choice of five flight times. You must register so get in quick using this Google Form (which also has more information).
